2020 Baseball & COVID-19 Updates

UPDATE:  May 18, 2020

Families of Papillion Baseball Association (PRO Recreation Baseball)

We are happy to share with you the details of our combined summer & fall league.  Registration for our T-ball, Machine Pitch, and 9-14U kid pitch season is now open!  Below are details and timing of the season.

Registration

Season schedule

  • All players will be required to use their own glove, their own helmet, and their own bat.  This is mandatory, due to the pandemic and not optional.
  • Teams will be formed in the month of July via random draw
  • Practices will begin August 1
  • The season will conclude October 17

Preparing for a return to play

  • We are actively working on putting  together details based on current Local and State Government guidance
  • We are monitoring how things change and adapt over the next couple of months to be able to employ best practices
  • We recognize some will not be ready to return and we support that decision, while supporting those who wish to participate in the program later this summer
  • We are maintaining the same pricing as our traditional Fall Season while offering a more robust season

We encourage you to get registered early and share with your friends who want to play some baseball!

UPDATE:  April 14, 2020

Families of Papillion Baseball Association (PRO Recreation Baseball)

As you know, we are facing unprecedented times as we continue to manage through the COVID-19 pandemic. It comes with a heavy heart that we announce the cancellation of the Spring/Summer PBA Recreation Baseball season for our T-ball, Machine Pitch, and 9U-14U divisions. This decision was not made lightly however it has become prudent that we make the decision based on multiple factors:

· School closures through May 31

· NSAA High School Spring sports cancelled

· City of Papillion has closed all fields through May 31

· Uncertainty of whether we would be “open for business” June 1

· Most importantly, the safety and health of our community, participants, umpires and families

We will be processing refunds and expect to have those completed by April 30 – WE WILL SEND ADDITIONAL COMMUNICATION WHEN THEY HAVE BEEN COMPLETED.

For our 15U-18U members who participate in the Metro Area Baseball League (MABL), MABL is looking to have a delayed start to the season and have it run deeper into summer. We are monitoring that decision and will provide additional information soon.

We all love baseball and we know it will return. PBA is currently working on details for a great Fall Baseball league and hope to have more information out to you early in May. The fall league is for 4U-14U (T-ball, Machine Pitch, and 9-14U kid pitch). If you’re interested in participating, we do have the registration link available here:

There is some good news to share with our baseball families!! PBA is proud to share with you that we completed construction on two new batting cages at our Papio Bay complex. Once the City opens up the fields and park amenities, these will be a great addition to our youth baseball experience!

We will provide you more updates regarding the Fall baseball season in May. Thank you for your support and participation in PBA. We look forward to seeing the kids on the baseball fields again!

  • We are planning to have the season as scheduled at this time, with practices/games beginning the first full week of May
  • The PBA Board will be meeting via teleconference over the next several weeks to review the “what if” scenarios and will communicate out with you appropriately
  • We ask for your patience as we work to hopefully deliver a baseball season for all the great kids who love to play the game

2020 Spring Season

Registration has officially closed.  Teams and schedules are being formed now.

Teams are formed as follows:

Ages 4-8

Teams are formed using schools and neighborhoods as a guide.  Specific teammate requests will also be considered & accommodated IF possible.

Ages 9-14

Teams are formed using a skill assessment process of the 5 basic elements, Fielding, Throwing, Hitting, Pitching and Catching.  Assessments take place April 4, see Facebook for more details.

Teammate & coach requests WILL NOT BE HONORED, NO EXCEPTIONS.  Players are organized by their assessment levels and then placed on teams evenly using an open draft with parity being the goal.  All players are required to attend the assessment - no show on assessment day, means the player is not draft eligible and will be blindly drawn for a team.

Ages 15-18

Teams are formed via tryouts and play in the Metro Area Baseball League (MABL). Tryouts are held after high school tryouts. We do our best to place the boys, but we have limitations as it pertains to the number of teams we can field and the number of players placed on each team.
