Grades 3-12
PRO Basketball is a recreational (not select) league offered to youths in grades 3-12. At PRO we emphasize sportsmanship, skill development, equal playing time, and having fun. Each player is required to play at least half of a game, one quarter in the first half and one quarter in the second half. PRO has a zero tolerance policy toward players, coaches, and parents who exhibit negative behavior. Negative behavior directed toward officials, other players and coaches will not be tolerated. Players, coaches, and parents will be removed from the game or gym.
Season
The season runs from mid-December through mid-March. Teams are allowed a maximum of two practices a week (time and location are determined by coaches). Practices typically start before winter break with games beginning in early January and ending mid-March with a season ending tournament. All regular season games are played on Saturdays. 3rd and 4th graders play games at a grade school (TBD) and 5th-12th grade play games at Papillion Jr. High. Some regular season games may be played during the week and for the season ending tournament.
Skill Assessments and Blind Draft
The idea behind skill assessments and the blind draft is to have an equal level of skill amongst all of the teams. Players in grades 3-12 are required to attend the skill assessment. The assessments are run by the all of the coaches. Players run through a series of drills and coaches rate each player a 1, 2, or 3. Coaches meet following the assessments and determine and overall rating for each player. The Director of Basketball oversees the blind draft. Coaches select players one at a time from each pool of ranked players. Coaches are allowed one and only one trade. Trades can only be for an equally rated player and coaches are not obligated to accept the trade. Siblings are placed on the same team but we cannot accommodate requests to play with certain players or coaches. Coaches can utilize a trade for these requests.
